F Stands For Performance At Lexus
To achieve higher performance, there should never be any compromises.
It is important to define what a performance luxury car is. Is it one where the engine, transmission and chassis matters the most? Or, is it in the design and enabling the wind to dictate adhesion to the ground, brake and engine cooling? Should it be dictated by a driver-focused interior, designed to engage with the road at all times?

Ten years ago, Lexus set out to create a line of performance luxury cars. They came with a letter: F.
In the spirit of the greatest example of performance without compromise – the LFA – is a lineup of three cars with a singular mission: To be the best performance vehicles in their respective classes.
The Results of Crafting Performance Cars without Compromise
The results are what Lexus learned from the LFA and the previous IS F and applied it to a trio a performance machines to bear their lineage: The RC F COUPE, the GS F SEDAN, and the LC 500 GRAND TOURING COUPE.
The F Performance lineup starts with what is under the hood. All three models are equipped with a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 designed for higher revs and quicker track times. There is 467 horsepower underneath the hoods of the RC F and GS F, whereas the LC 500 offers 471 horsepower.
These vehicles are nothing short of amazing. The RC F and the LC 500 has each been timed on a 0-60 MPH sprint in 4.4 seconds, the GS F ran in just 4.5 seconds. All three cars can reach a top speed of 168 MPH.
Truth to Power
Channeling this power is an eight-speed sport direct shift transmission, designed to work this power through the torque curve on the RC F and GS F. The LC 500 is equipped with a new ten-speed direct shift transmission with a shift-by-wire gear lever.
To enhance the driving experience, a drive mode selector knob can switch from Eco to Sport S+. The Sport S+ setting is where engine, transmission, steering and suspension dampening are dialed in for a track day driving experience anywhere.
A Design Philosophy Through Performance
Enveloping this drivetrain is a body that is both classic and performance-oriented. The long hood design starts with Lexus’ signature spindle grille with its own use of airflow for better brake cooling. Each F Performance model has deeper ground effects extensions to enhance handling and air management. The RC F, GS F, and LC light up the road with three-bulb LED headlamp units.
RC F and GS F drivers enjoy racing-style seats that are designed to lock in the body, ensuring the driver has focus on the road and his vehicle. The LC 500 offers a more contoured seat that combines ultimate luxury with driver focus. Available with the performance package is a sport seat of leather and Alcantara that hugs the driver toward being focused on the road ahead.
Each driver gets the full view of a TFT dynamic gauge cluster that is designed to quicken the pulse by looking at it. The touchpad-controlled screen is the hub for audio functions, a navigation system and the connection to Lexus Enform for directions and the use of smartphone apps. The LC offers a wider 12.3-inch version of the same screen that can be divided for each function in multiple ways.
With Performance Comes Safety
Each F Performance model was built to be fast and safe. Active safety features include a pre-collision system with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, a backup camera, Intuitive Parking Assist, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Smart Stop Technology. To further enhance these technologies, Lexus Enform Safety Connect is available to connect with Lexus if an issue arises with these performance machines. Enform can also be monitored through a smartphone with its own app.
