Lexus is the Top-Ranked Brand in J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study

Not that we’re surprised, but Lexus of Henderson is still very proud to announce that Lexus is the top-ranked of all automotive brands in the latest J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study. Lexus ranks #1 in vehicle dependability with a score 28% better than the industry average. Traditional Lexus rival, BMW ranked just 1% better than average while Mercedes-Benz scored 29% worse than average or 80% worse than Lexus. 

J.D. Power’s methodology is based on surveys from over 30,000 owners. An initial study surveys owners after the first three months of ownership which becomes the data for the firm’s well-known Initial Quality Study, where Lexus also does well. Determining dependability requires time, so they survey these owners again after three years of ownership, and those results become the data for this U.S. Vehicle Quality Study. While that makes this technically a study of 2020 Lexus models, the ranking is seen as reflecting brand dependability as a whole. 

The study was redesigned in 2022 to include features and technology more readily available in current vehicles. It now covers 184 specific problem areas across nine major vehicle categories: climate; driving assistance; driving experience; exterior; features/controls/displays; infotainment; interior; powertrain; and seats.

Lexus also achieved top rankings for two individual models vs their vehicle categories:

• Lexus NX (Compact Premium SUV) 
• Lexus RX (Midsize Premium SUV)
