Lexus Wins Multiple IIHS Awards

For 2023 the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the Lexus ES350 with the Top Safety Pick in the midsize luxury 4-door sedan segment, and UX, NX, and RX models with the Top Safety Pick+ in the small and midsize luxury 4-door SUV segments. 

When the IIHS awards a vehicle with the Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+, it means that the vehicle has achieved the highest possible crash test ratings in all of their standard tests. 

ES350

The 2023 Lexus ES350 has a base price of $43,090 and is one of the finest, most reliable luxury cars ever made. With front-wheel drive and a 3.5-liter V6 making 302 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque that is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. You can choose between a Luxury or F-Sport trim when buying your ES, and you will achieve up to 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, respectively. 

UX250 Hybrid

With the 2023 Lexus UX250 Hybrid, you get a really nice package that’s meant to give you fantastic fuel mileage and daily usability in one model. With a starting price of $36,490 and either front or all-wheel drive, along with a standard luxury-style and an F-Sport trim for a smaller hybrid SUV with some fun handling characteristics. Powered by a 2.0-liter hybrid inline-4 making a combined 181 horsepower and attaining up to 43 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, respectively, for the front-wheel drive UX, and 41 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, respectively. All models are equipped with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT). 

NX Class

The 2023 NX can be had in either 250, 350, 350 Hybrid, or 450 Hybrid. Starting at $40,305 and going up to $60,555 for the NX450h F-Sport AWD. The standard 250 has a 2.5-liter inline-4 making 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Moving up to the 350 gas-powered model gives you a 2.4-liter turbo inline-4 outputting 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. The 350h has a hybrid drive 2.5-liter inline-4 with a combined horsepower rating of 240 horsepower. For the top of the range, the NX450h features a plug-in hybrid 2.5-liter inline-4 with a combined power output of 304 horsepower. Only the base 250 can be had with either front or all-wheel drive, once you go up the range to the 350 and above, you get standard AWD. Fuel mileage for the NX250 is up to 26/33 mpg with the FWD or 25/32 mpg for the AWD. The gas-powered NX350 can achieve up to 21/38, while the 350h can return 41/37. Hybrid models are equipped with an ECVT, while non-hybrid models feature an 8-speed automatic transmission. 

RX350

One more IIHS winner is the venerable RX350. Starting out at $48,950 and powered by a 2.4-liter turbo inline-4 making 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.5-liter hybrid inline-4 with a combined 246 horsepower and 233 lb-ft of torque. Hybrid models come standard with all-wheel drive and are able to achieve 37 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, respectively, while the non-hybrid 350s can be optioned with either front or all-wheel drive, and return up to 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, respectively. The RX350h is equipped with an ECVT, while the non-hybrid models have an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
