Rumor or Fact? The Next EV From Lexus Expected To Be A 3-Row SUV – Lexus TZ
With the introduction of the first all-electric Lexus in the United States, the RZ 450e, there has been a lot of buzz about what will come next. A recent trademark filing could give us a hint as to what Lexus has in store.

The Future of Lexus
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Lexus could be working on a mid-size three-row all-electric crossover. Lexus will be the main focus of EVs for Toyota, according to newly minted Toyota CEO, Koji Sato. When asked about what the future of automobiles looks like for Toyota and Lexus, he said, “To deliver attractive BEVs to more customers, we must streamline the structure of the car, and with a BEV-first mindset (Battery Electric Vehicle), we must drastically change the way we do business, from manufacturing to sales and service. Lexus will lead this transformation.”

Lexus TZ?
According to a user on the Lexus RX Owners forum, Toyota filed a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for the names Lexus TZ 450e and TZ 550e. It would make sense to think this is going to be a three-row all-electric version of the newly debuted Lexus TX three-row SUV. The RX and RZ are both similar in size and design, with the RX being a gas and Hybrid-powered two-row crossover, and the RZ being the electric-only crossover. In 2021, Toyota said they have a plan to offer 30 electric vehicles by 2030 and it would be understandable to see many of those being new Lexus models.

TNGA
With the introduction of TNGA, Toyota New Global Architecture, Lexus has the advantage of a platform that can be used for multiple sizes of vehicles as well as fully-electric vehicles. The RZ 450e rides on the e-TNGA platform.

Other Potential Future EVs
There is also a possibility that Lexus is looking to make electric vehicle versions of the IS sport sedan and the legendary LFA supercar. Perhaps they will be called the IZ and LFZ in all-electric versions.
