Reasons the Lexus TX Outshines the Acura MDX

The all-new Lexus TX is coming soon, bringing three rows of space and luxury. It offers a range of solid powertrain options, available all-wheel drive, and a load of safety and comfort technologies. Beyond that, it’s a compelling alternative to some of the heavy hitters in its segment, including the long-running Acura MDX. 

The TX is available with three engine choices, including a standard turbocharged four-cylinder. A hybrid option is available, making 366 horsepower, and a more powerful plug-in hybrid will come later in 2024, producing 404 horsepower. The MDX gets a standard V6, giving it strong acceleration and a sportier driving feel than the TX. The TX is a better choice if fuel economy and refinement are your thing.

Lexus offers a bench or second-row captain’s chairs for the TX, with a seating capacity reaching seven with the bench, and its third-row seat is actually usable for adults. It has more than 33 inches of legroom, four more than the MDX, and is one of the most spacious third rows in the segment. The TX also has a clever interior design that allows removing the second-row center console when captain’s chairs are equipped.

The Lexus luxury build quality is on full display, and the automaker packed the cabin with premium materials and a pleasing design. While the MDX features upgraded interior design, you’ll be impressed with the look and feel of the extremely well-built interior space in the TX. Lexus offers a range of interior color options that give the space a much more inviting and personalized feel, and drivers can upgrade the space with options and accessories.

Toyota and Lexus have spent considerable effort improving their infotainment interfaces in recent years, and the results are legitimately impressive. The new system is more intuitive, responsive, making it much easier to use while driving. It also brings more features and has a cleaner, more attractive look than previous versions.

The TX comes standard with a 7-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen that brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 12.3-inch configurable digital gauge cluster is available in the Technology Package, which also adds a panoramic camera system, a digital rearview mirror, and a head-up display.

The new TX hasn’t been fully crash-tested yet, so we don’t have a Top Safety Pick to talk about. Even so, it comes with a generous suite of advanced driver aids, including automatic high beams, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, road sign recognition, lane keep assist, lane departure warnings, and a backup camera.
