Top 10 Things To Know About The Lexus RZ

Lexus has always been known as a disrupter in the automotive industry. When they wanted to build the most reliable and understated luxury sedan, they did so with the LS. Then they decided to create one of the best and most special supercars in the world with the Lexus LFA. To make the LFA, they created the world’s largest carbon fiber loom. 

First-Ever All-Electric Lexus

While Lexus has been making great Hybrids for decades now, the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e is their first-ever all-electric car. While it rides on the e-TNGA platform (TNGA is short for Toyota New Global Architecture, e stands for electric), it is the first Lexus to be on a lightweight steel platform. To save weight and increase rigidity, the RZ features an aluminum hood. 

Just Two Trim Levels

The RZ 450e can be purchased or leased in just two trim levels: Premium with a starting MSRP of $59,650 and Luxury starting at $65,150. Horsepower and battery remain the same for both Premium and Luxury trim. The RZ 450e Premium comes with 18” wheels and a range of 220 miles, while the RZ Luxury has 20” wheels and 196 miles of range. 

Plenty of Speed

With a 71.4 kWh battery system that produces a total system output of 308 horsepower and 320 lb-ft torque, the RZ will be able to get to 60 mph in 5 seconds flat, according to Lexus. However, in Car and Driver’s testing, the 0-60 mph time was 4.6 seconds, with a trip through the ¼-mile at 13.5 seconds at 99 mph. As a comparison, the stellar Lexus IS-F in Car and Driver’s hands did the same performance times in 4.7 seconds and 13.1 seconds at 110 mph. The IS-F had a 5.0-liter V8 producing 416 horsepower and 371 lb-ft of torque.

Since 2001 Mark Levinson has been an option in pretty much every Lexus model. The RZ is no different, featuring a 13-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson sound system that will make you feel as though you’re in a concert hall just for you and your passengers. Couple that with the 14-inch multimedia touchscreen, you will be finding excuses to go for a drive. 

The RZ Features Unique Suspension

The 2023 RZ features quite the unique All-wheel drive system called DIRECT4 with an eAxle attached to both the engine and front motor. Utilizing an eAxle on the front wheels and one on the rear wheels, power can be seamlessly controlled without the driver ever knowing the system is maximizing traction for them. All of this works in tandem with the Frequency Reactive Dampers (FRD) in the suspension, which changes the damping on the fly to make both a spirited and comfortable ride possible. 

Plenty of Interior Space

The brand new RZ doesn’t look that large on the outside, but thanks to it being an electric vehicle and not having an internal combustion engine (ICE) take up space, the EV Lexus has 35 cu.ft. of cargo space behind the rear seats. Folding the seats down gives you 48 cu.ft. of total cargo space. So there is no reason why you can’t leave your golf clubs in the back while still having plenty of room for your grocery shopping. 

Available Steer By Wire

Coming soon to the United States as an option on the Lexus RZ 450e is a new Steer By Wire system, giving drivers a direct feel in the steering of the wheels on the road. With quick, communicative steering with agile performance at low speeds and increased stability at higher speeds. With the Steer By Wire system on the RZ 450e, the gauge cluster will sit 1.5 inches higher and 1.4 inches further from you to reduce the amount your eyes have to move to see the road and the gauges during sporty driving enjoyment. 

Slides Through The Air

One of the more important ways to increase fuel mileage and range is to design a car that doesn’t hold the air up from moving past you. The sleeker and more aerodynamic the body, the better it can be. The Lexus RZ features a slick design language that slides through the air with a coefficient of drag of just 0.29. So while Lexus created the RZ to look special, it is a design meant for a specific purpose.
