Capability
Lexus offers two powertrain options for the 2024 GX. The first is a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission. Output lands at 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque – both improvements over the outgoing model. The hybrid will come later on, but the capability for the standard gas setup is impressive. Towing is up to 8,000 pounds for the new model year, and full-time four-wheel drive is standard. All models also get a Torsen limited-slip center differential that offers 50/50 power distribution and improved traction with reduced wheelspin.
Styling
One of the biggest stories with the new GX is its exterior styling, which Lexus says “exudes the tough, rugged persona that it has earned time and time again.” The automaker aimed to express the SUV’s capabilities through styling, and the resulting look is impressive. The overall design is more angular, with a wide track and fender flares. Lexus increased the width by 3.74 inches and gave the GX standard LED headlights. The overhangs are shortened for better approach and departure angles off-road, and the front A-pillar is moved back for a sleeker look.
Interior
Though it’s a beefy off-roader, the GX is still a luxury SUV. It features seating for up to seven people and offers semi-aniline or synthetic leather. Lexus offers three interior color choices, including black, gray, and tan, and black or dark brown trim is available. The Overtrail trim brings suede accents and black synthetic leather. Heated and ventilated front seats are standard, and heated second-row seats are available. The third-row seat is available with power and manual folding, and the GX has rear-seat reminders for added peace of mind with kids and pets on board.
A new 14-inch touchscreen comes standard, bringing the new Lexus infotainment system. Cloud navigation is standard, along with an intelligent voice assistant system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a smartphone-based digital key system, remote app features, and Lexus Safety System 3.0.
Safety
Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 comes standard, bringing automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure alerts, road sign recognition, and a highway driving assistance system. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, parking assist, and automatic high beams are also standard. The new GX hasn’t been crash-tested yet by the IIHS or NHTSA.
