“Driven By Sound”: The 2021 Lexus IS Wax Edition

In the 2021 Lexus IS, it’s always time to turn up the music. This time, the music is “Driven by Sound.”
In a collaboration with Lexus and Pitchfork, they brought together recording artists MC Madlib and KAYTRANADA to create a collaborative effort for the video series “Driven by Sound.” The result is a new album for these two artists and one of the coolest 2021 Lexus IS sports sedans around. They call it the Wax Edition.
What makes it the Wax Edition is the integration of a fully-functioning turntable into the dashboard. While playing vinyl records, the turntable is suspended to keep from missing a beat. Sounds like something from the late 1950s? Keep in mind that turntable and infotainment technology has advanced since then.
To make a full-sized turntable fit into the glove box, the creative custom audio experts at SCPS made it from 3D printing methods for the fit. The turntable is wired to the Lexus IS’s Mark Levinson 17-speaker system. This system is driven by a new amplifier offering 1,800 watts of power for a 7.1 surround sound listening experience.
The result is a sound that fits the recording by these two artists perfectly.
You can actually see the unveiling of the Lexus IS Wax Edition and a demonstration of the turntable by watching the episode on Pitchfork’s channels.
